Dear ALMS Students and Families: 

Welcome to the start of the 2022-2023 school year at Albert Leonard Middle School! We are proud to continue our long tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. The new school year will begin on Wednesday, September 7th. Our goal is to inspire, empower and educate every student. We look forward to partnering with our wonderful, supportive parents to make this year extra special for the children. We want to bring the joy back to learning. A strong home-school partnership will align with our effort to support the development of our students, socially, emotionally and academically.

This letter includes some initial information for the upcoming year. We often communicate via email. Please ensure that we have the correct contact information so that you are able to stay up to date with our general messages. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 Orientation for all students 

Please note we will be adhering to the following schedule. All students should report to the ALMS Henry Graybill Auditorium entrance at their scheduled arrival time.

*6th Grade students should bring a lock as they will receive locker assignments this day

Student Schedules will be distributed to students during orientation. Student schedules will also be available online via the Home Access Center, which is scheduled to open to families the evening of 9/1/22. We ask that you make sure your child brings their schedule with them on the first day of school if you have home access.

Thursday, September 8, 2022 First Full Day of Classes for Students  (8:30am – 3:16 pm) 

Students will report to their Period 1 class. Students will be permitted to enter the building at 8:20am with dismissal at 3:16pm.

Breakfast & Lunch: Breakfast and lunch will be served starting Thursday, September 8, 2022. Students will eat during their scheduled lunch periods. Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students this school year. Although meals are free, families must still complete the free lunch application as this is needed for state records and reporting.

Public Transportation: Bee-Line busing will begin on Thursday, September 8, 2022 for eligible students. Student transportation passes may be purchased online (https://nred.revtrak.net). *Student passes must be paid in full at time of purchase. Daily bus route information is posted on our website. Your child may purchase a STUDENT PASS or a METROCARD, not both. METROCARDS are $9.00 per card and are good for 8 trips per card. A maximum of 2 cards per month may be purchased. There are no replacements. STUDENT PASSES are $115.00 for a 5 month period. Lost or stolen cards will be replaced for $5.00. STUDENT PASSES are valid M-F 5:30 a.m. through 8:30 p.m. on Bee-Line buses only.  

Agenda Books (School Planners) will be on sale for $5 during orientation day and through the first full week of school during student lunch periods. All students are required to use this planner and parents and students are encouraged to read the opening pages. The purpose of this handbook is to provide students and parents with information about the programs and policies of ALMS as well as assist students with organizing and planning their schoolwork. Please let us know if there is a problem with purchasing the agenda book.

Students will be given a Student Emergency Card & Dismissal and Contact Information Form along with other important information during orientation. Emergency cards with dismissal and contact information forms must be returned to the ALMS main office no later than Wednesday, September 14, 2022. These forms are very important in contacting you in case of an emergency. Please note, students will NOT BE dismissed to anyone but their parent/guardian if we are missing the Dismissal and Contact information form. 

Cell Phone Policy: Students are not permitted to use their cell phones during school hours. In the event that a child needs to contact home, they may do so in their House office. Violations to the cell phone policy will result in the device being confiscated and brought to the main office. Confiscated devices may only be picked up at the end of the school day. Repeated violations will require a parent/guardian to come to school to retrieve the device.

Your child’s health is integral to their academic performance. Sixth grade students are required to have their Tdap booster In addition, seventh  grade students and new entrants from schools outside of the New Rochelle School District are required to have a physical examination.  Our Health office staff will contact you early in the school year if we do not have updated documentation.
